Maizbhandari Order
Love is all. Almighty Allah says, “I was mysterious. I expressed myself in love.” (Hadith-E-Qudsi).With the principle of love Almighty Allah has created all. The Almighty creator Allah started with Hazrat Adam (AS) and established religions for a better living from time to time. With the continuity of religion in the world Islam had been established finally through Prophet Muhammad (SM) as the last, most beautiful, easy and complete code of life. It is based on 4 principles: Shariat, Tariqat, Haqiqat & Marifat. The messenger of Allah Prophet Mohammed (SM) said- Shariat is my order, Tariqah is my works, Haqiqat is my status, Marifat is my spiritual mystery. To becoming a true man and follower of religion people should follow these 4 principles and must have gathered knowledge of Islam. Absent knowledge, human life is meaningless & incomplete.
After Prophet Hood the Caliph’s tenure also observed Tasauf based Religion Islam. After them some ill elements were adopted in the name of religion. We can say that these non-religion practices started from The Battle of Karbala where Yazid killed Imam Hossain (RA) and took leadership with conspiracy. History said that Yazid attacked Madina and Holy Kaaba. Though Yazid ruled three years but his followers like Wahabi, Khareji ruled about 66 yrs in Umayia period and about 500 yrs with Abbasia period they also ruled a part. It is known that a lot of descendents of Prophet (SM), Imams, and Spiritual Saints appeared with real Tasauf based religion but were outnumbered and defeated by the Yazidi group. Some of them became Shaheed due to torture of Yazidi based group, some of them tried to protest in a thin and weak way. Yazidi group took help from anti-Islami groups and made them sound in wealth & power. General people would greed for wealth and were afraid of torture of Yazidi group. They made many supporters, changed the religion books explanation as their own views, did propaganda against Tasauf based Islamic saints as Kafir, Musrik and so on. Day by day they left the practices of Tarikat, Haqiqat & Marifat and preached Shariat based doctrine as real Islam. As a result Muslim world divided in different views, arose conflict with several problems. Misconception took place in the mind of general people and they misguided through that wrong interpretation of real Islam.
Whenever the darkness of ignorance enfolded the mankind, great teachers came among them as blessing. These great men carried the torch of religion and philosophy to advance the cause of humanity and civilization. With the power of knowledge and dedicated soul for serving the creation, they are like sources of unending light to remove the darkness of ignorance.
When the world is in critical situation with religious contradict and conflict Allah sent Piran-E Pir Dastagir Gausul Azam Syed Abdul Kadir Zilani as religion reformer for the age required. Khaja-E Khajegan Syed Mainuddin Chisti Al Fesani Bahauddin Naksbandi and numerous Wali Aulia came in this world with divine love to guide people with a way or path to reach Almighty Allah. The way shown by the spiritual leaders known as Sufi way or order.
Maizbhandari Order is a liberated Sufism order established in south Asian nation of Bangladesh in 19th century by 27th descendent of holy Prophet (SM) Gausul Azam Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ahmadullah Maizbhandari (K). (1826AD-1906AD). Five Hundred and Eighty Six years before his birth, a renowned religious scholar and spiritual leader Hazrat Mohiuddin Ibnul-Arabi predicted the birth of this renowned Sufi. He also predicted that the whole world would be enlightened by the knowledge and spiritual power of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Ahmadullah Maizbhandari (KA).Soon after his birth, his father was directed by the Prophet (SM) to name his son as ‘Ahmed Ullah’.
His father’s name is Syed Mati Ullah and his mother’s name is Syeda Khairun Nesa. After completing primary education in 1260 Hijri he got himself admitted to Kolkata Aliya Madrasha and began to continue his studies there. In 1268 Hijri he completed his studies and got highest degree of Madrasha with distinction having command over the Holy Qur’an, Al-Hadith, Tafsir and Fiqh. He was appointed as Kazi in Jessore in the following year. He resigned from the post of Kazi in 1270 Hijri and joined as Head Mudares in Munshi Bu’Ali Madrasha, Matia Buruz, Kolkata. He took Bayat from Syed Abu Shama Mohammad Saleh Lahori Al-Kaderi who was the Khalifa of Piran-E-Pir Dastagir Syed Abdul Qader Zilani. He also got blessing from Shah Sufi Syed Delwar Ali Pakbaj. Mohajer-E-Madani and many other renowned Sufis. After attaining different kinds of Faiz he returned to his own village Maizbhandar and passed some times in conducting religious teaching in public meeting and conferences (Milad Mahfil). In proper time he started to engage himself in deep meditation towards Allah to attain divine (Belayeti) power .With this divine power the remote village Maizbhandar turned into Maizbhandar Sharif and the Maizbhandari Tariqah was established by Shah Sufi Syed Ahmadullah Maizbhandari or as he is most popularly known ‘Hazrat Kebla’. It became an ocean of spiritual blessings and a famous centre of spiritualism in the Indo-Pak subcontinent within a few years.
This Maizbhandari order is renowned for its open spiritual method or Sufi way where any one can join despite caste, creed, sex, religion. It is based on humanity and love which connects creator and creation. This order is a progressive age befitting, multi dimensional, conservatisms less, comprehensive, unlimited freedom, humanitarian model of religious equality and is free from communalism.
Maizbhandari order is a model of practicing Shariah, Tariqah, Hakikah & Marifat. This ever dynamic and revolutionary order integrates and synthesizes with Kadria, Chistia and Khijiri Tariqah. Kadria order developed by Hazrat Gausul Azam Abdul Kadir Jilani, Chistia Order shaped with the spiritual principle of Syed Mainuddin Ahmed Chisty and Khijiri principle is to understand the mystery of nature.
The devotee of this Maizbhandari order doing Zikr (Remembrance) to purify the seven layers of soul follows a complex pattern of Nafsiat Zikr located at naval, Ruh under the right chest, Akfah (Mind) and Qualb under the left chest. Zikr is essential to purify seven Nafs. Nafs are described as Nafs-E Ammara, Nafs-E Lawwama, Nafs-E Mulhima, Nafs-E Mutmainah, Nafs-E Rajia, Nafs-E Morjia, Nafs-E Kamila.Above method also done by Kadria devotee for meditation. Dancing during Zikr is another main principle of practicing devotee of Maizbhandari order to purify whole body. A Maizbhandari devotee uses Semah as a form of prayer which makes connectivity with human body and soul leads to Almighty Allah. This Semah practice is inspired from Chistia order. Founder of Maizbhandari order also took some other methods & techniques to guide devotees which are very simple and sound in practice to attain success here and here after.
There are seven methods to follow which make a man in perfect one with moral control and self purification. They are divided into two parts like Destruction of human instincts (Fana-E Salasa) and Death of Aptitude (Mout-E Abra).
Fana-E Salasa attains through follow three steps:
(1) Fana Anil Khalak:- With self spiritual meditation achieve self-reliance. In the order of priority, the first principle of Maizbhandari Philosophy is to be self-reliant.
(2) Fana Anil Hawa: To avoid slandering at others back and backbiting. If one follows this principle in letter and spirit, human life becomes facile and anxiety-free.
(3) Fana Anil Erada: To surrender completely with the will of Allah not having any self desire
Mout-E Abra in four steps:
(1) Mout-E- Abyeaz- White Death: Practicing self-control, continence and modesty, observing starvation, less eating and less sleeping.
(2) Mout-E-Aswad- Black Death: To inculcate self-criticism, self-purification, restrain vindictiveness and retaliation, control rage, and accept easily the criticism made by others.
(3) Mout-E-Ahmar- Red Death: To control greed, covetousness, sex-impulse and extinct sexual lust, and regulate oneself to internal and external discipline. If any one attain Red Death may belong to the class of saints.
(4) Mout-E-Akjar- Green Death: To observe absolute austerity, show gratitude and thankfulness, avoid extravagance and lead a simple pellucid life free from foppishness.
If these seven steps are being achieved, one can become very much dearer to Allah with ardent faith in him and absolute dependence on the Almighty and His Divine unity (Tawhid). Moreover, by following the above principles, many untold sufferings can be avoided. Furthermore, anyone will agree that humanism can be achieved in its best possible way by combining the above principles and that’s why the major focus of Tarika-e-Maizbhandari is on human development and self-attainment.
The goals of Maizbhandari order: To attain nearness to Almighty Allah through achievement of perfection by giving up selfishness of the worldly life. To establish the ideals of universal religious equality through the solution of religious conflict and dispute in the world. Motivate people to lead a life in the path of truth and justice and develop the growth of human virtues to ensure material and spiritual welfare both in the world here and hereafter. To establish personal and social peace by controlling all sorts of moral degradation and crimes.
The Unchained Divine Love is one of the rare contributions of Hazrat Gausul Azam Shah Sufi Syed Ahmad Ullah Maizbhandari (K) for global humanity. He called people to express the unity or oneness of Allah. The main purpose of the creations is to unite with the oneness of Allah. Hazrat Gausul Azam Shah Sufi Syed Ahmed Ullah Maizbhandari (K) was the first to open the door of unchained divine love for all people of the world irrespective of caste, creed and religion. One of the important characteristics of Maizbhandari philosophy is to observe the rituals and conventions of shari’ah (e.g., Kalema, Salah, Fasting, Hajj, Zakat, Zikr, Durud etc,) as stated in the Holy Qur’an. Al-Hadith and Sunnah and ordered by Allah and his Prophet (SM). Maizbhandari philosophy is not something separate from Islam; rather it is the essence of Islam. All people irrespective of caste, creed, sex and religion became the followers and devotees of Hazrat Gausul Azam Syed Ahmed Ullah Maizbhandari (K) and his successor Hazrat Gausul Azam Gulamur Rahman Maizbhandari (K); under the shadow of Maizbhandari Order. With the charm of miracles (Karamat) of Hazrat Gausul Azam Ahmed Ullah Maizbhandari (K) and with the increase in the number of saints through the divine blessings (Faiz) of Hazrat Gausul Azam Maizbhandari (K), the Maizbhandari philosophy spread throughout the sub-continent among the masses of people. These saints burnt the fire of divine love to all those who were the seekers of divine blessing.
After the departure of Hazrat Ahmed Ullah Maizbhandari (K) this Maizbhandari philosophy spread through his competent and loving successor nephew Gausul Azam Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Gulamur Rahaman known as Baba Bhandari (K) (1865-1937) took the order to its pinnacle height in terms of manifestation.
Gausul-Azam Hazarat Syed Golamur Rahman was born on Monday, the 10th of January 1865. His father was Syed Abdul Karim, the youngest son of Syed Mati Ullah Shah. His mother’s name was Syeda Musharaf Jaan. Even before his birth, Gausul-Azam Hazarat Syed Ahmed Ullah predicted to his brother’s wife that she would be the mother of Peran -E-Peer. Soon after the birth of Baba Bhandari, there were signs of tremendous improvement in his parent’s family and miraculously the family’s financial situation had improved. This was perhaps the first visible manifestation that the new born baby was truly blessed by the Almighty Allah. With the birth of Baba Bhandari, the parent thanked Allah for this heavenly gift and prayed to Him for materialization of Hazrat Kebla Kaba’s sacred saying. After seven days of his birth, he was brought to Hazrat Ahmadullah Maizbhandari who took the new born baby in his hand and pronounced: “This child is the rose of my garden. He has got the complexion and beautiful appearance of Prophet Hazrat Yusuf (AS). Look after him. I name him Gulamur Rahman”. Not to speak, this prediction came to be true.
Gaus-ul-Azam Baba Bhandari received his education in different Madrasha in childhood. Afterward he got himself admitted into Government Madrasha in Chittagong city. In student life too, he was reticent, introspective and he spent most of his time in the meditation of Allah.
He was first given the Quranic lesson by his own uncle and spiritual guide – Hazrat Ahmadullah Kebla Kaba. Baba Bhandari started his basic education in a local religious school and later continued his higher studies in the Chittagong Government Madrasha – a religious college in Chittagong City. Throughout his academic life, Baba Bhandari demonstrated his utmost brilliance and devoted himself in understanding the underpinnings of the holy Quran and Sunnah.
Baba Bhandari attained the highest level of spiritual power. Since his early age, Baba Bhandari used to go for meditation. When he used to take the herd of cattle to tend in the field, he used to tell them:” Don’t destroy anybody’s crops”. This advice to the cattle acted as such that they never encroached upon anybody’s crop area. In the meantime, he used to get engulfed in deep meditation. This also clearly indicates the divine power that was awarded to him by the Allah from his boyhood, whereby even the animals would listen to him.
Baba Bhandari worked as a dynamo in spreading our Order and taught his disciples that one is not bound by custom, tradition, race, personal or social ideologies, yet capable of changing the course of human destiny. The focus of his spiritual education is to train the individuals to know their true personality and inner values through inward training, leading to healthier relationships among human beings. Baba Bhandari was installed by Hazrat Kiblah Kaba himself in his own spiritual domain to carry on the torch of Maizbhandari Philosophy. This great saint had portrayed his life with the true spirit of the Islamic teachings and rare humanitarian virtues.
He silently noticed and mixed with silent nature and attained union with the Divine illumination. He developed unimpeachable character and transcended the lure of this world. Thus the stream of nectar of his spiritual attainment showered blessings upon humanity irrespective of creed or cast. Like in the case of Hazrat Kebla Kaba, the description of Baba Bhandari’s ‘Karamats’ appears to be never-ending. All these Karamats were geared towards the well being of human race and to guide the people in the path of welfare. Many people were and are still being blessed by his spiritual power and overcome many of their miseries in life and many got divine blessings by merely coming in association with him.
At the age of 71 years and six months, Baba Bhandari left this world on 5th of April, 1937, corresponding to 22nd Chaitra of 1343 Bengali Calendar Year.
